In August 1913, Harry Brearley discovered stainless steel, a steel with 12.8% chromium and 0.24% carbon. His discovery ws announced in 1915 in an article in the New York Times.
The Titanic
The Titanic sank on the night of April 14, 1912, in the Atlantic Ocean, killing 1514 people. Only 710 of the 2224 passengers survived.

Oreo cookies were first introduced in 1912, and since then have become the mst popular cookies in the U.S. In 1898, a few baking companies merged into National Biscuit Company (NaBisCo), and in 1912, they got a new idea for a cookie - two chocolate disks with a creme filling in between.

The Mona Lisa, a famous painiting by Leonardo da Vinci, was stolen on August 21, 1911, right off the wall of the Louvre. the police had o lead on the thief, but the painting turned up in Italy two years later.

The first Pultizer Prize Awards were presented in 1917. Joseph Pulitzer was a journalist. In his will, he gave a total of $250,000 to Columbia University to launch journalism school and give scholarships. After his death, the first prizes were awarded on June 4th.
Machu Pichu
The Incan city of Machu Pichu was discovered on July 24, 1911, by Hiram Bingham, an American historian. The site was covered in dense vegetation when he found it, and some of the buildings had collapsed. It is five centuries old and Bingham found approximately 5,000 afrifacts.
